EuropeanDNA 2.0
Our new service will predict your European heritage among the following groups:
-
Southeastern Europe (SEE)
-
Iberian (IB)
-
Basque (BAS)
-
Continental European (CE)
-
Northeastern European (NEE)

Please note that this test takes 12-16 weeks from the time we receive your swabs to process.
DNAPrint® Genomics' powerful new EuropeanDNA 2.0 product, further elucidates European sub-ancestry using 1,349 European Ancestry Informative Markers (SNP AIMs). This test reports a customer's proportional basic continental European ancestry: Southeastern Europe (SEE - Armenian, Jewish, Italian and Greek), Iberian (IB -Spanish, Portuguese), Basque (BAS - Spanish/French Pyrenees border), Continental European (CE - German, Irish, English, Netherlands, French, Swiss and some Italian) and North Eastern European (NEE - Polish, Baltic, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Russian) ancestry. The EuropeanDNA 2.0 test is based on recently published scientific work using DNA chips to compare populations from around the world. The reference for this test is: Bauchet M, McEvoy B, Pearson L, Quillen E, Sarkisian T, Hovhannesyan K, Deka R, Bradley D, Shriver M. 2007. Measuring European population stratification with microarray genotype data. American Journal of Human Genetics 80(5): 948-956.
This paper was the first to effectively resolve European populations based on autosomal markers. Autosomal markers are the non-sex chromosome markers, and only autosomal markers can be used to properly infer ancestry contributed by all of a person's ancestors (mtDNA or sex chromosomes such as Y chromosome cannot be used for this purpose).
The paper resolved 5 fundamental and ancient types of European ancestry – Southeastern European (Armenian, Jewish, Greek, some Italians), Iberian (Spanish, Portuguese), Basque, Continental European (German, Irish, English, Polish, some French and Italian, and North Eastern European (Finnish)). Many ethnogeographic populations show interesting mixes as a function of their history and geography.
In collaboration with the Shriver lab, which published the Bauchet et al., 2007 paper, DNAPrint® mined the chip marker used to create the Bauchet et al., 2007 paper, looking for the SNPs that provided most of the European Ancestry Information.
We found that 1,349 of the 11,071 chips SNPs, provided most of the within-Europe ancestry information.
EuropeanDNA 2.0 measures each of these 1,349 European Ancestry Informative Markers (AIMs) for each customer, and using a Bayesian algorithm, reports a customer's proportional Southeastern European, Iberian, Basque, Continental European and Northeastern European ancestry.
EuropeanDNA 2.0 is by far the most advanced genetic ancestry test yet to be offered to the public. It has taken us 4 years in the field, since the introduction of EurasianDNA 1.0, to produce a product of this power and quality.
There exist a couple of other tests claiming to accomplish the same thing as EuropeanDNA 2.0, but these use markers that were not selected from the genome based on their Ancestry Information Content (such as STRs, CODIS STRs, randomly selected SNPs etc.), and too few of the markers are used for a problem of this level of difficulty. Thus, while the average customer would not necessarily appreciate these fundamental deficiencies, the existing tests for European ancestry are expected to work poorly if at all. EuropeanDNA 2.0 fills this technology gap and in our opinion is the only legitimate genomic autosomal test for sub-European ancestry.
Because EuropeanDNA 2.0 is based on published, peer-reviewed work, and because appropriate marker types and numbers are used, customers for EuropeanDNA 2.0 have access to valuable precision data from validation experiments. Competing tests for European ancestry, based on work that is not published, cannot provide this important data.
EuropeanDNA 2.0 focuses on Continental European sub-ancestry, whereas EuropeanDNA 1.0 is used for both European and Eurasian sub-ancestry. Thus, EuropeanDNA 2.0 is for customers who expect little or no Asian or other non-European ancestry.
The idea to develop EuropeanDNA 2.0 was based on customer feedback. DNAPrint® learned that many of its customers are genealogists with European ancestry who desire more detailed and recent information than that provided with its EurasianDNA 1.0 product.
